Pokemon Sword & Shield Expansion Pass Bringing New Pokemon, Areas, And More Adventures

Today during Nintendo Direct, we learned about the future of Pokemon Sword and Shield. This year, the game will get even bigger thanks to an expansion pass that will bring new environments, more than 100 clothing items, hundreds of Pokemon, and a lot more. The expansion Pass consists of two DLC and costs $30. What are these two DLCs going to bring to Pokemon Sword & Shield games?

First Expansion: Isle Of Armor

The first DLC coming this June will let players travel to the Isle Of Armor, a place where new and returning Pokemon will come. The main focus of this expansion is “growth.”

Players will be able to find a Legendary Fighting-type bear called Kubfu, which evolves into Urshifu. The evolved Urshifu can use one of the two forms – Single Strike Style (Fighting/Dark) or Rapid Strike Style (Fighting/Water).

New characters will also show up on the Isle of Armor. You’ll meet a former Pokemon League Champion called Mustard, who was Leon’s mentor. Mustard also trains your rival character on the island. Pokemon Sword players will see the Poison-type trainer, Klara, while Pokemon Shield players will meet the Psychic-type trainer Avery.

Second Expansion: Crown Tundra

The second expansion will come this fall, and it focuses on exploration. It takes place in a new arctic area of the Galar region. Many new and returning Pokemon will show up in this place, including Calyrex, a new Grass/Psychic Pokemon.

The Crown Tundra will include Max Raid dens in which you can enter alongside other players. In the dens, players will be able to find Legendary Pokemon from other titles, and new Legendary Pokemon as well – Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

Other Details About the New and Returning Pokemon

We mentioned that every expansion would bring new and returning Pokemon. The Pokemon on the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra can only be caught there, but if players haven’t purchased the expansion pass, they can trade and obtain those Pokemon from the expansions.

Players will also meet new regional variants for Pokemon they already know, such as Galarian Slowpoke, which is a pure Psychic-type. Pokemon Sword and Shield currently lets players preview the new expansion pass content. Players will be able to head towards the Wedgehurst Station and meet Klara or Avery and even catch the Galarian Slowpoke. For those that want to buy the pass, they will receive a Pikachu uniform and an Eevee uniform for their trainer.
