WhatsApp Finally Brings The Dark Theme – Is it Worth Using it?

With technology constantly evolving, WhatsApp keeps coming with significant changes in order to adapt. After not providing support anymore for older phones like the ones running Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, the most popular instant messaging app now brings up its long-awaited dark mode. This should turn itself useful for a lot of people since a dark theme relaxes the eyes, facilitates the usage of the app, extends battery life, and so on.

But are the WhatsApp users really happy with the new look of the app? Surprisingly enough, after taking a look at the reactions among the web, we’ve seen plenty of people who are unpleased with the dark mode for the Facebook-owned app.

The dark theme is not actually… dark

When you say “dark”, you obviously think about the black color. Well, the dark theme of WhatsApp doesn’t really have that much black in it, according to product marketing expert Fabian Nappenbach, who wrote in a tweet the following:

Years in the making, the dark mode of WhatsApp is bad in so many details.

Try it with any of the provided wallpapers. No, find any wallpaper that does not look stupid with those colours. And ofc there is no real black option. Is it so hard just to copy Telegram?

As you can see for yourself, the guy wipes the floor with the long-awaited dark mode of WhatsApp. With over 1.5 billion users, it’s easy to understand the huge level of expectation that was coming from the fanbase of WhatsApp. Now, the truth is that they are not so delighted with the outcome. WhatsApp’s dark mode clearly needs some visual improvements.

However, we should bear in mind that there are also some fair alternatives out there like Telegram or Viber. Life doesn’t end with the Facebook-owned instant messaging app, although we have to admit that it can turn out to be extremely useful.
