The Weather App ‘Dark Sky’ Joins Apple – Bad News for Android Users

Dark Sky can prove itself very useful for those willing to have their phones up-to-date with the latest weather news. We have to believe the developers when they are claiming that their app is the most accurate source of hyperlocal weather information.

Dark Sky is known for its accuracy, as it can tell you instantly when bad weather will stop and when it comes back. And now, the app has a new home since it joins Apple.

No more availability for Android

The Dark Sky app is no longer available for Android, along with Wear OS. However, if you already have the two apps installed on an Android device, you’ll only be able to use them until July 1st when they will be completely shut down. If you have an active subscription by that date, it’s good to know that you’ll receive a refund.

Adam Grossman, who is the co-founder of Dark Sky, wrote the following:

Our goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible, to help as many people as we can stay dry and safe, and to do so in a way that respects your privacy,

There is no better place to accomplish these goals than at Apple. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to reach far more people, with far more impact, than we ever could alone.

As for Dark Sky’s API, it will continue to function through the end of 2021. However, third-party apps won’t be using Dark Sky’s weather data for their own apps anymore.

If you’re willing to test or keep Dark Sky for good on your phone, all you have to do is to buy it from Apple’s App Store at the low price of $3.99. But of course, you must own an iPhone to do so since Android is not supported anymore.
