The Forgotten Dragon Ball Characters – Will They Ever Return?

Dragon Ball is an enormous franchise with dozens of characters, and the forces of good are always prevailing. But yet again, there are some characters that deserved more credit and highlight for having enormous contributions on defeating evil or simply because they have some potential of becoming decisive in one way or another.

In this list, we are including just that, characters who deserved to be more important in the franchise. It doesn’t matter if they are good or evil.

8. Yajirobe

He was once Goku’s rival in the first Dragon Ball series, but the two later became good friends after they got engaged in a battle for food. Yajirobe helped Goku to defeat King Piccolo by joining him on a dangerous journey of finding the ultra divine water that gave Goku new powers. Yajirobe could have been one of the strongest Earthlings, but instead, he preferred to stay with Korin during most of the franchise, the wise talking cat. If Yajirobe could have got a little more courage, the outcome would have been completely different.

7. Android 16

Being created along with Android 17 and 18 for terrorizing the Earth and appearing in the Cell Saga from Dragon Ball Z, this fighter’s imposing posture promised a lot. While the other two androids gave Piccolo and Vegeta a lot of headaches, Android 16 was barely involved in any fight at all. He was used only to be Cell’s punching bag and to hold a great speech that unleashed Gohan’s hidden powers. After being destroyed by Cell, Android 16 was never seen again in the whole franchise.

6. Nappa

Nappa is the tallest guy in the picture above, and he was Vegeta’s henchman back in the old days when the Sayian Prince was a bad guy and doing dirty work for Frieza. After giving the Z warriors a very tough battle and killing some of them (Piccolo, Tien, and Chiaotzu), Nappa was killed by his own comrade, Vegeta, for the simple fact of losing against Goku. Nappa only had another appearance in Dragon Ball GT when all the villains were brought back to life from Hell. Nappa’s return was very brief, and only to be killed by Vegeta again.

Being a Sayian, a race that is very important in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, and having such a terrifying entrance into the franchise by killing some of the good characters, it’s obvious that Nappa deserved more attention. But instead, he went away as fast as he came.

5. Goten

Goten is Goku’s youngest son, and he showed fabulous potential when he was first introduced near the Buu Saga from Dragon Ball Z. Goten was the youngest Super Sayian ever, an ability that Vegeta and Goku struggled for many years to achieve.

Unfortunately, Goten wasn’t involved by his own in any decisive battles for the fate of the Earth. He did fuse with Trunks to battle Majin Buu, but it’s clearly not enough for a son of Goku and one that had such tremendous potential. Goten only had brief appearances, and he became obsessed with picking up girls when he became a teenager, quitting fighting and training. Goten deserved much more highlight, but who knows, maybe he will receive it at the return of Dragon Ball Super to the screens.

4. Uub

Uub is the reincarnation of Majin Buu, and he appeared only for several episodes at the end of Dragon Ball Z and a little more in GT. Majin Buu was a purely evil character, but he was reincarnated as a good character who fought for his loved ones. There’s no trace of Uub in Dragon Ball Super, but hopefully, this will change. Uub is comparable in strength with base form Goku at the end of Z, so the reincarnation of Buu clearly deserved more highlight.

3. Tien

Tien was one of Goku’s toughest opponents back in the first Dragon Ball series. This character had some fabulous fighting techniques like multiplying himself, pulling out another two arms, solar flare, and more. While he is vastly surpassed in strength by a Super Sayian or not to mention a Super Sayian God, some of Tien’s techniques are unique in Dragon Ball. This character clearly deserved more spotlight in Dragon Ball Z, Super and GT, but he rarely appeared. It was nice to see that Tien participated in the Tournament Of Power, though.

2. Raditz

Raditz, the one from the right, is none other than Goku’s older brother. Tall, muscular, and long-haired, Raditz was purely evil, and he came to Earth with the purpose of killing all the life forms from it. He put up a very tough battle against Goku and Piccolo, and the outcome was tougher: Raditz died along with Goku. Goku returned stronger than ever, but Raditz was never seen again. For a close relative to Goku, that was way too little, and we still hope to see Raditz again one day.

1. Piccolo

Piccolo just has to take the cake and be on top of this list. Being Goku’s sworn enemy back in the first Dragon Ball series, he later became one of the good guys. Being fused with Kami since the Cell Saga, Piccolo is practically the creator of the Dragon Balls from Earth. We’ve barely seen Piccolo fighting in Dragon Ball Super. Besides the Tournament Of Power, Piccolo got too little involved in the action and he didn’t count in the Cell and Buu Sagas from Dragon Ball Z. This is way too less for a character like him, not to mention that he also has some mind-blowing fighting techniques.

Do you know any other Dragon Ball character that deserves more highlight?
