Old Roku Will Not Have Netflix or Apple TV

Unfortunately, the Roku company announced that technical difficulties would stop the old devices from working with Netflix as of December 1st. This has been quite a surprise, considering that the company based in San Jose is specialized in making cheap streaming devices to assure users the watching of streaming networks like CBS All Access, Netflix, and others.

No intention of being cynical, but the best solution for the problem with old Roku devices is to buy a new one since they are extremely cheap.

New models are $29.99

The Express model of Roku plays back in HD only, the Premiere ($39.99) also plays in 4K and HDR, and Stick ($59.99) has greater Wi-Fi range. Roku says that their new models have way more power, load content faster, and have a cuter user interface.

One big disadvantage of the newer Roku models is that they can’t connect to old TVs that require more than an HDMI input.

No Apple TV

Need any more reasons to upgrade your Roku device? How about this: Apple TV+ will not play on the old Roku devices either. For those who don’t know, Apple TV+ is an upcoming American over-the-top ad-free subscription video on demand web television service announced in 2019, during the Apple Special Event held at Steve Jobs Theater in March 25th.

Apple TV+ content will be viewable via the Apple TV app, which will become accessible to numerous devices, including even those of Apple’s competitors.

After all, Netflix isn’t a service to be ignored. It offers three types of monthly subscriptions: Minim, Standard, and Premium. The cheapest is 7,99 EUR for Minim, while the highest is 11,99 EUR for the Premium option. You can guess for yourselves for what subscription is the 9,99 EUR subscription.

The first month for Netflix is free, and you can cancel your subscription anytime you want.
