Without a doubt, Mafia 2 is one of the best gangster games ever created. Being released a decade ago by 2K Games and developed by 2K Czech, the second installment from the Mafia series is easily considered a masterpiece by many gamers. It features legendary soundtracks from the ’50s and ’40s, unforgettable shooting, a compelling and terrifying story, and many more.
Therefore, a remake dubbed Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is on its way to delight many fans of the open-world shooters that showcase environments from many decades ago. The location of the fictional city Empire Bay (based in New York) will remain the same, as the remake doesn’t intend to add anything else. Instead, it will focus on improvements for the graphics.
An image has leaked
As we take a good look at the image, it doesn’t reveal much, but it’s one big confirmation that the remake of the game is on its way. While we don’t yet have a release date, we can truly expect it to arrive soon. However, there is one big chance that we’ll see Mafia 2 Definitive Edition in the Epic Games Store in September.
Does Mafia 2 really need the remake?
Looking objectively at the situation, Mafia 2 could use some graphical improvements if we judge it by the standards of gaming from nowadays. And there’s always room for more improvements in this area when it comes to a video game. Back in 2010, when Mafia 2 was launched, the graphics and sound effects were absolutely stunning for that period. Even the facial expressions of the characters were in accordance with what they were speaking, and the shooting sounds were deafening and accurate. Therefore, hardcore fans of the legendary game will always stick with the original version having the old graphics, regardless of how many remakes arrive. Besides, the graphics themselves can assure the grace of the game.
As the release of Mafia 2: Definitive Edition approaches, chances are null that it will ever beat the original. Nothing beats the original, generally speaking. In fact, the chances are low that a game with gangsters from the ’40s and the ’50s will ever emerge and be better than Mafia 2.
