2019 has been another great year for football, and FIFA 20 gamers had the difficult task of voting for the best players from the year that ended just seven days ago. But they decided the first XI and hopefully, it’s the best one.
Mbappe leads the attack
The young French superstar Kylian Mbappe was the best player of 2018’s World Cup held in Russia, and he scored 33 goals in 2019. He became once again the French champion in the previous year with his team PSG. Now, he leads the attack of FIFA 20 TOTY along with Sadio Mane from Liverpool and Barcelona’s veteran Leo Messi. It seems reasonable since Mane helped Liverpool to win Champions League, and he was decisive in the other competitions, while Messi doesn’t need any presentation. The Argentinian superstar himself is the embodiment of high-class football.
De Bruyne is the playmaker
The system for the FIFA 20 Team Of The Year is 4-3-3, but you can still consider De Bruyne to be the playmaker. The Belgian footballer from Manchester City dominates the midfield and is appointed to provide useful and outstanding passes to the three attackers, along with two other great midfielders: Kante from Chelsea, and Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona.
The defense comes almost entirely from Liverpool
One exception: the young Dutch footballer Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus/Ajax. The other three defenders are coming from the European champions Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk (who is also the captain of the Netherlands national team), the young English player Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the Scottish Andrew Robertson. As for the goalkeeper, it also comes from Liverpool: the Brazilian Alisson.
Where is Ronaldo?
Without a doubt, the big surprise from the list of the first XI is the absence of the Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Even though he will be 35 years old starting from February 5, he still is a frequent goal scorer for his current club Juventus. Ronaldo scored over 30 goals in 2019, but maybe other footballers are simply better than him in the present.
