Diablo 4 Will Be Online Only, But Players Can Play Solo If They Want

This weekend has been quite epic for all Diablo fans since Blizzard has announced Diablo 4, the highly awaited RPG that has been in development for a lot of years.

In the announcement and gameplay trailers, we’ve seen parts of Diablo II and a lot of incredible new content merge into the new installment. We get to choose between three classes – Druid, Barbarian and Sorceress, all highly customizable. Then, we can start battering beats, ghouls, skeletons and any evil thing lurking around.

Diablo 4’s senior producer Tiffany Wu stated the animation tech has been updated, and now fllen enemies even have different animations:

“We’ve added these death kicks so depending on how you kill monsters, that’s how their body falls apart so the barbarian should decapitate them. If it’s a sorceress she can just roast all the meat off the bones or she can freeze them and they’ll shatter into a billion pieces.”

Diablo 4 Will Not Support Offline Play

In a GameSpot report, the project’s lead designer stated that Diablo 4 will not support offline play, which means you must have an internet connection to play the game:

“We are not going to support an offline mode. But as I said before, nothing in Diablo 4 is going to require partying up. You can play solo and dungeons are private. Campaign quest areas will remain private.”

This means you can play solo if you’re more of a lone ranger, but will need an internet connection to play the game. Although fans that have been played Diablo III are aware of these details, newcomers might be deterred by the only online feature, thinking it is equivalent with multiplayer modes.

Diablo 4’s release is still far away, said Blizzard, adding that they still have to work on many features, such as PVP. Blizzard co-founder and executive producer on Diablo 4 Allen Adham, stated that the PVP feature has been something they’ve been working on since the first day of Diablo 4, adding that:

“That’s been a long time coming. We don’t have specific details to share, but we’re in the middle of prototyping some really interesting approaches.”

Diablo IV is set to be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Adham said they “we have our eyes on it,” when asked if they’re prepared for Diablo IV on next-generation consoles.
