Thousands of fans were overwhelmed by joy when Blizzard announced that Diablo 4 is in development. More than seven years have passed since Diablo III was released.
While the title remains, many popular players were looking forward to a new entry in the franchise. Technology has evolved a lot in recent years, and many envisioned a Diablo game that harnesses the power of modern hardware to deliver the visceral hack-and-slash action for which the series is known.
Blizzard has stated that Diablo 4 can be compared with the first chapter of a book, a subtle manner of telling that the franchise has enough potential for the company to release new titles in the future.
Diablo 4 Story Returns to the Darker Roots of the Franchise
This idea was reinforced by a high-ranking Blizzard employee involved in the development of Diablo 4. He stated that the company plans to shape a big and immersive story that can be told over a long time. Diablo 4 will focus on Lilith as the main character, while other characters could steal the scene in future games.
While the stories told by previous iterations are serviceable, it is clear that Blizzard wants to offer an experience that features more narrative elements while also delivering the core combat action is beloved by fans across all over the world.
At this point, the game is being developed for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. There is no information related to additional ports, but since the game is still in the first stages of development it is thought that it may be released for Xbox Scarlett and the PS5 in the future. The Switch version of Diablo III has also been quite popular, and it is hoped that Blizzard will also offer the upcoming title on the popular portable console. A lot of features were showcased during the reveal of the game, and it seems that Diablo 4 will be quite successful.
