A new social media platform was born this week, under the name of Byte. Why do we call it the Vine 2.0? Because it is the Vine successor, the platform that introduced us to a bunch of viral 6-second short videos.
Byte – mixing the old with the new
Although Vine was discontinued by Twitter (owner) in 2017 due to job cuts, Byte rose from its ashes this week.
Byte users can upload an existing video that has to be 6 seconds long, or they can turn on the camera and start filming for that short period of time.
On Twitter, Byte announced the official release of the app:
“It is both well known and new. We hope it will appeal to people who feel that something is missing.”

Byte is looking for viral content and connecting users. As with all fresh apps, for now, follower counts cannot be seen, and you cannot share user profiles, which means you cannot see who is the best creator. Byte’s plan is to allow influencers to make money through their creator program.
The app still needs a lot of work, but let’s remember it has just been released and a lot of features such as hashtags, blocking unwanted content, and many fixes are still under development.
A while ago, Vine’s co-founder, Dom Hofmann stated that he was looking to create a new app based on the popular Vine.
Byte (owned by Byte Inc.) is available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. It is currently available in more than 40 countries, including the US, Canada, some parts of Europe, Russia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan, with more to be added in the future.
“Nostalgia is our starting point, but where we go next is up to you”
The app description notes that if you yearn for Vine, then you should try Byte.
We like how the ‘Find byte’ tab looks and what if offers for now. Check Byte out right now, if you are curious about the new app. It’s safe to say it has a lot of potential, and let’s hope it’s here to stay and make all that Vine nostalgia go away.
