Beware of Malicious Windows 7 Upgrade

Windows 7 is arguably the best operating system that Microsoft ever created, but the Redmond-based giant still decided to stop supporting it since January. That means that if you’re still using Windows 7, you’re on your own – no updates nor technical assistance from Microsoft are available anymore.

A new cyberscam is roaming throughout the internet, inviting users to update their Windows 7 operating system. Cofense, a company that provides phishing prevention and awareness training services for data protection, is now raising the alarm about the new cyberthreat that targets Windows 7 users.

The scam falsely invites users to upgrade to Windows 10

The scam falsely claims to belong to IT support, and there’s no reason why you should fall for it. Microsoft announced very clear that technical support for Windows 7 is down for the count, and it strongly encourages users to make the upgrade to Windows 10. And there’s no reason why you shouldn’t at least give the last operating system made by Microsoft a try. The upgrade is still free-of-charge if you own an original copy of Windows 7.

How to upgrade to Windows 10 for free

Many were expecting that the official Microsoft free upgrade path ended four years ago, but it looks like it’s not actually the case. The process is simple: simply go to the official software download page from Microsoft’s website and follow the instructions for the ‘media creation tool’. Once you have a genuine Windows 7 product key, there’s no need for entering a key during the process.

There’s no denying that Windows 10 has its flaws, but Microsoft is doing its best to keep it at a decent level. Therefore, chances are huge that we might never see a successor for this operating system. Instead, Microsoft would keep updating it until the end of the internet.
