ARM’s latest Cortex-A78 CPU and the Mali-G78 GPU

ARM produced two amazing CPU and GPU designs for the next smartphone generation. They are called the Cortex-A78 CPU and the Mali-G78 GPU. Therefore, the next year’s premium mobile phones will be powered by these excellent ARM designs. Maybe even the the smartphones that are coming out after 2021 will feature the same mobile designs.

You might not have heard about this company; however, ARM is very significant in the tech industry. This company doesn’t usually appear on the spec sheets of the new mobile phones or tablets, but it does have a crucial hand in the design of the chipmakers. That includes Qualcomm, Huawei, and Samsung.

What is ARM’s hand in the chipmaking design? Well, the company is producing the system-on-a-chip designs. And, their designs power most of the smartphones and tablets out there on the market. Plus, the company is extending its business to laptops, such as the Surface Pro X.

Let’s take Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865, for example. This processor is based on a customized version of the ARM Cortex-A77 and Cortex-A55 designs for its Kryo 585 CPU. On the other hand, Samsung’s Exynos 990 is based on different ARM designs. This processor uses Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 CPU cores, as well as Mali-G77 GPU.

According to the company’s opinion, the Cortex-A78 CPU core design is “unquestionably our most efficient Cortex-A CPU ever designed for mobile.” Why? Because of its increased percentage in “sustained performance.” Compared to its predecessor, we can see a 20% increase, while staying within a 1-watt power budget.

According to ARM, the new CPU and GPU designs should offer better battery support. Especially for the 5G smartphones. Plus, the latest CPU design should accommodate the new foldable mobile phone trend.

However, we will have to wait a little bit until these new designs come out. They will probably make an appearance in the next year’s chipsets.
